In June, I travelled West to present at the Better Beef Business Forum in Kununurra to discuss natural capital and emerging opportunities for northern pastoral businesses. It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout and level of interest from producers, highlighting the growing appetite for practical information on natural capital.

Over the past year, one of the most common things I’ve heard from producers is that natural capital feels overwhelming. There is no shortage of information, but finding practical, balanced advice that is relevant to northern Australia can be difficult. In partnership with the Future Drought Funs Northern Hub, the NTCA has been researching and producing a suite of practical, easy-to-understand resources that explain natural capital, carbon and broader environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics in plain language.

To complement these resources, we’ll be delivering a series of free producer workshops across Western Australia and the Northern Territory. These workshops are designed by industry, for industry, with a strong emphasis on practical, producer-led discussions rather than theory.

Whether you’re just starting to explore natural capital or you’re already considering carbon, biodiversity or other emerging market opportunities, the workshops will provide an opportunity to hear directly from producers, industry experts, government representatives, financial institutions and supply chain representatives about what is happening on the ground.

We’ll explore how natural capital fits into everyday station management, what changing market expectations mean for beef businesses, and where diversification opportunities may exist, while also discussing the risks, challenges and practical considerations that producers need to be aware of.
