New biosecurity awareness signs are being installed at key entry points to the Northern Territory following advocacy from the NTCA.

The signs remind travellers that biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility and encourage people to help prevent the spread of pests and diseases. They also prominently display the emergency animal disease and exotic plant pest hotlines, making it clear where people can report anything unusual.

NTCA has consistently advocated for stronger biosecurity awareness at the Territory’s borders. With thousands of vehicles entering the NT each year, prominent signage is a simple but important way to remind travellers of the role they play in protecting our livestock industries, pastoral properties and natural environment.

Strong biosecurity relies on early detection, quick reporting and shared responsibility across industry, government and the wider community. For the Territory’s cattle industry, an outbreak of an exotic pest or disease could have serious consequences for livestock, market access, regional communities and the broader economy.

NTCA welcomes the installation of the new signs and thanks the Northern Territory Government for responding to industry’s advocacy. It is a practical and highly visible step that helps keep biosecurity front of mind for everyone entering the Territory.
