Infrastructure and Regional Development

Infrastructure and Regional Development

The first agenda item at the inaugural meeting of the NTCA was to discuss the state of the NT’s road network and how future economic development would be reliant upon strategic investment by Government in order to support industry.

Tens of billions of dollars of Government investment later, the state of the road network in the Territory is slowly improving, but there is a long way to go before the true potential of Northern Australia can be unlocked. Improving the regional road network remains a key focus of the NTCA, these improvements will be a panacea for a variety of other areas of focus for the NTCA and our stakeholders.

Regional safety, health, education, liveability and socio-economic improvement all need better roads. Services that are reliant upon being able to access remote areas of the Territory, some of which may only be seasonally accessible, are vital to the future growth of our industry and our communities.
